Bangladesh Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid thanked UNESCO and the Director General of this organisation Ms. Irina Bokova for inscribing the historic 7th March Speech of our Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in the Memory of the World (MoW) Register of UNESCO.  He was addressing the 39th Session of the UNESCO General Conference this morning.

He also expressed Bangladesh’ commitment to regional peace and its support for establishing world peace. Reaffirming Bangladesh’ support to the UNESCO, Mr. Nahid also urged the international communities to put pressure on Myanmar based on the 5 points plan placed by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at the 72nd Session of the UN General Assembly to take back the Myanmar Rohingya nationals who took shelter in Bangladesh due to the ongoing violence and atrocities there.

Mr. Nahid informed this international organisation about the success of Bangladesh in education with a special emphasis in the fields of the girl’s education, gender parity, women empowerment, reducing child mortality and resilience to climate change impact.

It is to be mentioned that Bangladesh Education Minister is leading a high level delegation in the UNESCO General Conference that comprised of Md. Sohorab Hossain, Secretary, Secondary and Higher Education Division, Kazi Imtiaz Hossain, Bangladesh Ambassador to France, Chowdhury Mufad Ahmed, Additional Secretary and  Md. Monjur Hossain, Sceretary, Bangladesh National Commission among others.
